Jan Koehler is currently researcher at University of Osnabrück, and previously at SOAS London (until 2023) and Freie Universität Berlin (until 2019). He is a founding member of the consultancy company ARC-Berlin. Jan received his first degree from the Freie Universität Berlin in Social Anthropology and did his PhD in Political Science on institution centred conflict research.
The current focus on Jan’s research activities is Afghanistan, Central Asia and the Caucasus region.
He places special emphasis on political settlements in borderlands, the impact of development interventions, conflict– and governance research and the capacity development on empirical research methods in those regions.
In addition to research activities, consultancies and teaching Jan has been engaged in photography as part of his ethnographic work and travels.
