The overarching research question of C9 are (1) the conditions under which externally supported state-building can lead to the local emergence of effective and legitimate governance in North-East Afghanistan and (2) how this externally supported governance interrelates with the overall stability of the social order in a context of the downsizing of the international intervention.&xnbsp;

Conflict and Development Research

The programme Institution Centred Conflict Studies (ICCS) builds on the experiences and results of preceding projects focussing on comparative research into state building, social dynamics and violent conflict in the Caucasus and Central Asia (1993-2006). Since 2010 partner universities in Kabardino-Balkaria and Osh established adapted teaching and research programmes based on this methodology.
